For M & M

If you’re lucky, you have a sister or sisters. If you are very lucky, your sisters are also your friends. And if you’re not blessed with a sister, consider your best friend one. Close enough. I ought to know. My best friend is like a sister to me.

This post is a tribute to the threesome that consists of my sisters and myself. Loving, fiercely loyal and supportive, together we are and always have been a force to be reckoned with. We’ve embarked on yet another journey together – a difficult one. I don’t know how I would cope on this journey without them – and without the love and support of my best friend.

For what it’s worth, I’m the middle sister. It’s a lovely
place to be.

Random Glimpses - Past & Present

July 2009. At my nephew’s wedding. Mother of the groom on the right. Who knew the baring of shoulders was the style this summer? Not me. Figures.

August 2009. Two out of three goofing off for the camera. A rare shot. We’re usually all in sync with the goofy looks.

Trip to Jamaica - a time out from being moms. Oh, the stories we could tell about that trip! But we don’t. We keep them amongst ourselves. That’s what sisters do.

Had to put this one in to show our pre-motherhood bodies. Not that our bodies have changed much at all. Really. {{wink wink}} Although I must say, looking at this picture I realize what a boon pregnancy was for my bust size. (Baby brother in the background.)

With our Mom – the woman who raised these bright, beautiful (?!) & sometimes silly girls. It’s now our turn to take care of her – with patience and with love.

A family photo with our Dad. We don’t have too many of these. Each one is precious.

Dining out on big sister’s birthday dressed in our finest. Looks like my sisters cut their own bangs. Mine seem to have disappeared. I either totally butchered them or my mother used a barrette. Hard to tell with the lighting.

Family lore has it that my father described little (!) Beth as, “Built like a brick one…” The expression is actually, “Built like a brick sh*thouse.” Judging from the stance and size of me at such a young age, I can see why. I am 2 ½ years younger than my sweet lady-like (hands folded nicely in her lap) older sister.

“Thank heaven for little girls…they grow up in the most delightful way…”
The “baby” sister.

My sister-friend – who is camera shy.

What an amazing, sometimes sad, sometimes crazy but always wonderful ride we’ve had together!

“More than Santa Claus, your sister knows when you've been bad and good.”
~Linda Sunshine

And they still love you!

Beautiful. Beautiful little girls, beautiful little women, beautiful come into the fullness of life women.

A loving tribute to your sisters, to your parents, to your mother (bless her) and to yourself.

And you missy I would have been able to pick out in any crowd...that smile has never changed...nor will it ever.

Sending you love ♥

Beautiful post, Beth. I've always wanted a daughter, though I don't think I could have handled three.

Wow. You've left me in tears. All I can say is thank you for such a wonderful trip down memory lane.
Here's to the next lap that we're taking with Mom - thank heavens I have you both.

Wonderful post and great photos. I have been so lucky to have my sister close by for the past six months and get to share in the fun of her new baby. We are five years apart and I went away to school when she was 8 so we never really had a chance to spend much time together until now.

D'aw Beth that was a great post! I don't have any siblings by blood at least but I can fully appreciate the relationship that I do have with my chosen sisters.

Keep them close. More valuable than gold :)

Thank you – for these words, for everything. :)

Guy:
You might have had to build one of your cages/houses to keep three daughters under control!

megan:
Busy, sad times – but still, the shared laughter…

Cid:
Five years is nothing when you’re both older, right? Enjoy the friendship.

choochoo:
Thanks - I happen to think so, too!

Reeny:
Chosen sisters are just as precious and special.
Let’s face it – women are!

Lainey-Paney:
Yeah, there’s a bit of “aww” in this kind of post… ;)

Beth:
Ya think? Thanks!

Deidra:
And we’ve been blessed to have her as our mother.
Here’s to women – mothers, daughters, sisters & friends!

Didn’t get to choose my two crazy, lovable sisters – just got lucky!
And equally lucky in those I did choose…

...and I can't bear to think about what my life would be like without "the wind beneath my wings". The memories - there are so many and I pray we will have many more.

Love always, the "lady like" one

This is such a beautiful post Beth. I see my three girls when they were little like that, and pray they grow into women who are as close as you and your sisters are.
You are one lucky sister and friend, a true blessing, but I know that you know that. So very happy for you and this trip down memory lane, kinda makes me want to get out the Christmas candles and place mats. At step in the right directions, for sure.

A real support team for what lies ahead of you three. Thanks for sharing the photos through time, I love seeing the old ones especially. It gives me a sense of your history.

It's wonderful when a sister is also a friend, isn't it?

Bodhi Chicklet:
Quite the history there - can't reveal all - time, space and privacy limitations!

Ah, I love this post! The beauty of real friendships. I have two sisters and they are both my best friends. And I have one best friend whom I consider my sister.

i'm the middle sister too.
love the family photos. and yes, all three of you sisters are beautiful. you have your mother's looks. i see lots of happiness in your family.
its funny. i have hardly any pictures form my childhood. my sister debbie has some. i don't think my parents took very many.
which is funny because i take photos every day. i don't go anywhere without my camera. hardly anywhere.
i have more pics of my sisters as grown women than as children, even though we live a thousand miles apart.

I loved seeing your family pictures. There is something wonderful about three of anything.

(I've always felt a bit sad that I don't have sisters . . . and neither of my parents do, either.) I've been blessed with girlfriends, though.
