December Already??

While making the usual blogging rounds, I’ve noted (with an increasing sense of dismay) that Christmas preparations are well underway elsewhere. My home remains in its same old shabby-chic condition without a whiff of fresh pine scent or a hint of added greenery.

“Well begun is half done,” says Mary Poppins but what if you haven’t even started? A slight panic is setting in.

What has yet to be done around here:

1. Christmas cards

2. Outside Christmas lights

3. Indoor Christmas decorations

4. Christmas tree/decorate Christmas tree

5. Christmas shopping (need ideas first)

6. Shortbread, etc. (the “etc.” may be eliminated this year)

7. Drop off of children’s toys

But, hey, I do have a list!

See above.

If hearth and home are not prepared for Christmas, will Santa still come? I’ve been such a good girl. Really.

My dear, I have exactly the same list...and me worry? Not at all. Whatever gets done will get done in it's time..I'd rather have a few meaningful things crossed off the list than run around like a demented wind up toy trying to get them all done. Remember..our children are grown..whatever we do is for us and we can be as "simple" as we like or as "elaborate". I'm opting for "simple".

I can't believe it's December, it really doesn't feel like it.

Haven't done much so far but I usually don't prepare Xmas, so I'm good :-)

You can do it bebe. Mr. Curry just put our outside lights today and coming home at 5pm to twinkling stars and hanging lights round the house gave me such a lovely feeling. Start with lights! Onward!

Sometimes the lists make it work. eliminated Christmas cards years ago...and as we don't hav an oven...though truthfully some baking would be good...if only we could.

A list is a start. There is something very satisfying about ticking off.

I am trying to work out how to do it all and not feel resentful... that sort of messes up the whole deal.

Simple it will be this year – a gift to me from me.

You’re “good” and lucky! ;)

Maggie May:
Delegating that job to son #3 – we’ll see what he can do!

Oreneta:
Lists make just about everything work – as you very well know. ;)

Lynda:
Self-induced pressure to get it all done → resentment.
I should have written a post about women & Christmas prep….

ME TOO!!! Nothing yet...and maybe never! ;) oh I guess I WILL get some stuff out soon...I just hate the idea of dragging it all out and putting it all up...I'm the only one who does it, and it gts boring after a while. I say..Let someone ELSE do it this year!!

XOXOXOX

Baby steps are going on in my part of the world. My house looks like Christmas, Thanksgiving and laundry all thrown together in one confusing pile. I'll get to it...eventually.

You have a list which is far more prepared than I.

This year, living on my own I probably won't do anything Christmas-y except maybe a poinsettia on my desk and my animated Santa anywhere where I won't keep bumping into him. But I'd much rather be spending the holidays at my sister's place (or Paris) which is always transformed right after Thanksgiving, top to bottom, into Holiday Lane.

Might seem like extra chores during an already busy season but think of the end result and how nice it'll feel. And isn't it part of the fun all this listmaking and checking off of list?

Oh he comes, ready or not!

I've made my Christmas card list and present list. Now I just need to apply myself and get it done. But it's also the last week of school, then finals, then family vacation week. So, um, looks like I'll be right on schedule with my 'New Year' cards!

I keep telling myself that I can't drag all of the Christmas decorations down from the attic until I have a clean house. {I mean---how can I create a masterpiece on a broken canvas, right?}
So---they're stil in the attic. And my house is still a wreck.
And---if I only decorate a little, then I'll have less to put away after Christmas. (...I'm just sayin'....)

Ah yes, December can sneak up on us, especially after enjoying a brilliant November. One thing at a time, if you don't get to some of it few will notice for long. A tree is a must for me, I've never been brave enough to string lights (fear of heights, which explains the mold on my bathroom ceiling). It really is the spirit that counts. I realized today that I hadn't factored in any baking time. Ack!

I'm sorry, I believe you forgot to add "buy B an amazing, extravagant gift". Puhleeze,I'm counting on you.

I haven't done a darn thing towards decorating, but I did get the gifts bought by November - lol. Does that count for anything?

If you have a really good shortbread recipe, post it, please? Pretty please???

My mother always said: " Cut a to-do list in half...and you really won't know the difference..."

i am thinking i should put up some decorations too, if only to put myself in the spirit. i can get a little depressed at christmas, i don't know why. but the smells of pine branches and the pretty decorations- collected so everything has meaning- put me in a better mood.

My goodness you're organized. I've been trying to pretend Christmas is a few months away in a Quixotic effort to keep the snow from falling!

I'm taking your bet. A bit late, but I'm still taking it. So far, no spirits moving me from here. Will it come? Time will tell. In the mean time, I have two teens putting up bowls reds and green balls and Christmas place mats. That is the extent of it so far.

Work is a totally different story. So many people needing, so many less gifts to give. It is like that everywhere in this city.

XOXO
