Another April B'Day

Happy Birthday, Sam!

Another year…yet another birthday spent studying for an exam…

Take heart, my boy. You’ll soon be released from that particular prison/cage* – just as you were from your previous one.

See you soon. Birthday cake and presents await.

Love,
Mom

*Keeping your child enclosed in wire fencing looks kind of bad, doesn’t it? Child Services kind of bad. But the “pigpen” was constructed to allow a very young Sam to (safely) hang out with his brothers and cousins in the vicinity of a play area at the cottage. I think most of the play consisted of Sam throwing his toys out of the cage and the other kids tossing them right back in. Fun times had by all.

And he looks happy, doesn’t he? Sure he does…

The chicken wire cage is no worse than the lead paint covered playpens our mothers put us in in the blazing sun while they sat sizzling in baby oil, smoking Pall Malls and drinking vodka tonics (probably while pregnant with our sibling). Happy happy to a fellow April birthday.

He DOES look happy Beth...very happy indeed...he must have been looking at his mother with that smile!!

Safety first with children was always my motto (still is!).

Wishing Sam a happy birthday...exams be gone...LAST one EVA!!!!

Happy B-day, Sam. It doesn't look like he was complaining about beingin a cage. From one "prison" to another...I think it's what you enjoy doing or work towards that makes it worthwhile. :).

Oh boy! Two boys, two birthdays so close! Yeah, I'm sure the neighbors called social services on you but you absconded with the chill'un before they could get there. Our main goal is to keep the kids alive at that age - anything else is a bonus some days!

I had a similar pen at the cottage, he looks happy to be in it.

I think THAT is a very, very sweet picture.
Yes, the chicken wire is funny.... he looks so happy. He's got his dirt-digging tools....I'm sure he was having a ball!

Cid---LOVE your comment.
the only part you forgot: the candy cigarrettes dangling from OUR lips. Hello---it was cool for your kids to pretend to smoke!

Looks like a good plan, cottages can be risky places...lots of water and lots of distractions. Happy Birthday! Good luck on the exams.

To All:I was just about to thank everyone on Sam's behalf for all your best wishes and discovered he already did!
That's my boy!

aww, too cute and happy.
and don't worry about sam; we all live in some kind of cages, no matter how old we get to be.

I'd love to have chicken wire around me, lots of toys and nothing else to do...especially if someone else is cooking and there's a lake nearby.
