…tinker, tailor,
soldier, sailor,
rich man, poor man
beggar-man, thief
doctor, lawyer
indian chief…..
(And tax accountant, investment advisor, etc., etc.)
Dealt with them all last Friday.
(Okay, maybe not ALL – it just felt like it.)
Remained focused and feisty.
Do not underestimate me – ever.
The above is a an excerpt from a rhyming song for a jump rope game I played as a child. There are days now I feel as though I’m playing a “game.” This time around, I don’t plan on being tripped up by the damn rope.

What is it a tinker does? Works in metal?
guy:
I had to look it up. A tinker is someone who repairs broken things (metal ware). And, dear God, I actually spoke to a repairman too - about the porch roof!
It's also a British derogatory word for gypsys...they often worked with and sold tin...hence tinker...
Good luck with it all, there are definately times when fiesty and ferocious is what is called for.
Hang tough.
That's right. You OWN that rope, Girl! LOL
You'll get married "sometime". To a soldier. And you'll be the Queen. You'll be wearing Satin AND Lace which you were given by the Queen of Pixies. You'll be taken to the church in a pimped Wheelbarrow (complete with alloys & bodykit & a kick ass stereo) and you'll live in a converted Barn. Overlooking the Kingdom of Books.
Alternatively, you'll just pay the guys for what they do around your house.
Personally, I don't think either of the above are great to skip to.
Woo Hoo!!!
The things we thought were frivolous as children..and the saying comes back full circle -- and really means something this time!!
I love it -- "focused and feisty"
"do not underestimate me - ever"
Double woo hoo!!!
I've left something for you on Sage & Thyme for Sunday the 20th. Totally appropriate I think!!!
Keep your eye on the rope...isn't it fun to be older and smarter?
oreneta:
I'm hangin' - and being tough when I have to.
attila:
You betcha! And it's my turn!
amc:
Hey - you really know that rhyming song! I'm impressed.
Where did you come up with a converted barn???
And I agree. I really don't feel like skipping to either alternative.
sherry:
It was way more fun singing that song as a kid.
Will check out your blog for the "appropriate something."
mrs.g.:
As long as I don't have to play Double Dutch. That's really hard...
Love the jump rope rhyme! Love that you aren't being tripped up by the damn rope!
As for my blog, I've had trouble today too. I'm checking into it, but I'm wondering if it always takes a long time, or is it mostly yesterday and today???
I think I need to remove some of the clutter that is attached to other websites -- that seems to be holding up everything. Ahhhhh.
Thanks for your patience and for sticking it out and commenting.
Focused and feisty! I'd like to try that...
Found your blog from Sherry's blessing. I can see why she awarded you.
Beth,
It would be foolish to EVER underestimate you. I agree with Attila, you own that rope!!!
Focused and fiesty is a good motto! I will have to remember that one.
Here's hoping that you have a relaxing and reading Monday!
XOXOX
I think you should take that rope and wrap around someone's neck...really tight....just a thought
Life doesn't ever seem to just be, does it?
la la:
Re: your blog loading <-(which sounds rather weird) - I think it was primarily Saturday and Sunday.
And I have patience - when it's worth it!
moanna:
Sherry is a sweetheart and knows I can use an extra blessing - or two...
eileen:
Hey, you were focused and feisty the other day! The ability to do so comes in handy, doesn't it?
beth:
First it was a "fan of serial killers" and now this!
(Kiddo - words of wisdom for us both - no risking jail time...)
mamma:
No, it doesn't. And I truly (erroneously) thought that when I "grew up," it would.
Woohoo! You ARE a force to be reckoned with Beth...
trish:
I can be when I want to be.
(Oh, hell, I'm a force to be reckoned with any time!)
You tell 'em, girl. "Don't mess with me" attitude works. ;)
My sister used to have a few "jump rope" songs. I have no idea what they were.
Jennee's got one:
Cinderella, dress in yella
Went upstairs to kiss a fella
Made a mistake and kissed a snake
How many doctors did it take?
One, two, three, four, five...(keep counting till you get tripped up by the #%(#$&$ rope.)
Hmmmm....
What the hell IS a "tinker" anyway? I've always wondered.
Like, someone that is philosophical?
An intellectual?
Someone that really "tinks" a lot?
You know, I can't jump rope to save my life, mostly because I had an injured shoulder when we learned jump roping in gym class and I'm LAZY.
shari:
The meaning of some of those songs is beyond me. (Went upstairs and kissed a snake???)
I sang one similar to Jennee's way back when...
cip:
Hmmm. I don't "tink" so...
dorky dad:
Girls learned to jump rope on school playing grounds. Actually, it came naturally to us.
(A brutal sport.)
You go, girl! Play fair, but play TOUGH, and you'll always come out on top!
I hope you at least had some fun with the sailor... why he was docking in your area, I don't know... (besides to visit you, of course!)
