The # One Job

"If you bungle raising your children, I don't think whatever else you do well matters very much."

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis

(And there is no mandatory retirement age for this job – although your children might wish one existed.)

Oh Beth...how true....how true. It's the only good thing I've ever done in my life.

I'm sure you've done many good things in your life!
I just happen to believe this is the most important job we do.
And, ultimately, the most satisfying and rewarding - more so than the achievement of status, wealth and material goods.

Lainey-Paney's prayer on parenthood:

Dear Lord,
PLEASE don't let me screw this up!

You won't - you love that little guy so much. You're a great mom!

I love that saying and I believe it with all my heart and soul. I remind myself of this all of the time when the other crazy things in life start to mess with my head and get me side tracked. Thanks for this reminder, I can never hear it enough! XOXO

It seems crazy that we have to remind ourselves of this, right?
But, yeah, other (yucky) stuff in life just keeps happening...
We just have to keep our perspective - and our priorities straight.

I have to agree. We make mistakes. We are human. All I ask is that my kids know right from wrong and are compassionate to others. Then I know I did my job right.

BTW, I don't think one ever "retires" from parenthood. My mom still worries about us kids and we've flown the nest a long time ago. A parent just never stops worrying. :)

To worry, to worry well and to worry for as long as you live are all part of the job description!

Jackie O said that? I guess that HER children turned out fine, though too bad for junior.

Maybe she was directing that comment at some in-laws of hers.

It's the best job out there too!! I wouldn't trade it for anything

You're right - some of the "cousins" did not fare so well.

mike:
It is the best, isn't it?
The rewards far exceed the frustrations.

Wonderful quote! I've got three and try not to mess up too often.

That's the goal! We're going to make mistakes - just have to do our best to minimize them.

Glad you like the picture - it's of two of my kids!
