Odds and Ends

1. Finally had my car washed.  (It’s only been about six months.)  Next day – huge bird poop splatter on the windshield.  Coincidence?  I think not.  Why do I bother?

2. If you owed someone a little over $1000.00 – and had the money to do so – wouldn’t you pay up as soon as possible?  I would.

3. With this unusual summer-like weather we’re having, I’ve been opening my bedroom windows – and spending the nights sneezing.  What’s with the night air?  And why have I developed allergies at this point in my life?

4. Still dealing with matters regarding my mother - the latest as to her name being inscribed below my father’s on the cemetery plaque.  I realize legal, financial and other such matters will continue for quite awhile.  Still, they manage to pack quite a punch.

5. My older sister: (after weighing herself on my scale)
“Your scale is off – it’s about four or five lbs. too light.”

Me: (after my initial “uh-oh”)
“Why can’t you assume it’s correct?  That would make you happier and keep me semi-happy.”

5. For the “Books” part of BooksEtc. - recently read and very much enjoyed:

A Train in Winter: An Extraordinary Story of Women, Friendship, and Resistance in Occupied France - Caroline Moorehead
(I had no idea the guillotine was used during World War II.)

The Needle’s Eye - Margaret Drabble

Sanctuary Line – Jane Urquhart

The Forgotten Waltz – Anne Enright

The Sense of Ending – Julian Barnes

A Widow for One Year – John Irving
(Such a delightful surprise – thought I’d already read it – hadn’t!)

The Weird Sisters – Eleanor Brown
(Being one of three sisters, the title caught my eye)

Sneezing eh? I wonder if tiny little insects are crawling up your nose. Perhaps you should try inhaling some medicated stuff to put them off.

There's no point in washing my car. Every day leaves a brand new coat of green-yellow pollen everywhere now that's spring has arrived.

I wash my car when the kids are dying to go through the car wash! Might as well get some joy out of the whole thing, no? Especially as it's a rental!

I wish I had time to wash my car, it looks a disgrace.

bird crap is why i keep a squirt bottle of window cleaner and a roll of paper towel in my car, works on paint, too... otherwise, birdshit acids WILL eat thru the paint! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

allergies begin/end any time they want to

i detest debt, and pay it off asap

Those "last little details" that keep popping up after a loved one has left us -- they really do pack a punch. oxox

Great list -- thank you for posting it - making notes. I read the Julian Barnes and loved it!

Washing the car? What is this you speak of??? lol!!!

Reading Widow for One Year was perfect for you. I can see how the same things apply in a relationship breakdown, how things are categorized by the time of year - birthdays, regular holidays, how things are suddenly different and your entourage suddenly treats you differently. I loved the book and found it gave me solace - I read it before my husband died, but remembered it and used the special day markers knowing that the following year I would feel differently. Oh now, I am blathering on....

i havent washed my car in six months (or more?) too. i should really do, Beth.
just too lazy.

i'm a bit like your sister. i think the scale is wrong when it shows a lighter or heavier me. it's a mindset :)

I like your odds and ends. I don't find them odd and don't want them to end.

Is number one supposed to be funny? I am kind of autistic here. I can't tell.
if serious
I don't have a car to wash.
So count yourself fortunate to have bird poo to wash off one.
or I could say "lucky you can still see it" old age poor eyesight is coming for all of us, if-as we grow old.

1) Hahahahahaha!

2) Yeah, I would, but people can be real douchebags when it comes to owing money, especially to family members.

1) I, too, recently washed my car, but after about a YEAR of not washing it. Funny how I am less cleanly about my new car than I was about my old used car!
2) Yes, I would pay the bill. I hate the thought of owing anyone anything.
3) My windows have been opened for a while now too, and I have been suffering with acute insomnia. Like right now, for instance!
4) It took several years to finalize all manner of estate issues after my mother passed away. Hugs to you.
5) You are a hoot.
6) By the way, you have two #5's here on your blog... umm... of these I have read the Urquhart and the Irving. Both were amazing books, especially the Irving one. The movie version is disappointing as it leaves out literally TONS of what goes on in the book.

That's why I use a motorbike. All the guano can do is splatter my helmet :P

I have to read The Needle's Eye! I love Margaret Drabble. And people are always telling me my scale's 4 pounds light. Obviously our scales are in sync! :)

And I meant to say sorry about the emotional punches you're still getting. :(
