Have Been Busy...

Confession. My recent absence wasn’t due to any nasty respiratory virus. There were just so many repair jobs to be done around here that it seemed entirely reasonable and logical for Canadian icon and contractor extraordinaire Mike Holmes* of Holmes on Homes to temporarily move in to complete them all. I was kept very busy playing the role of his able assistant. As a memento of our time together, he left me with the above photo.

I’m still smiling…

Confession #2. Confession #1 is simply wishful thinking/fantasy on my part – on so many levels - the virus, the repairs, Mr. Holmes. The truth? My son met him at a convention this week and brought home the autographed picture for his dear old mom. Thanks, Teds.

Truth or fantasy, I’m still smiling…

…because my son thought of me
…because the comment on the photo is so apropos right now
…because I am (90%?) back in the world of good health (knock on wood)

(*Not sure how well known Mike Holmes is outside of Canada but I do know his TV show airs in the U.S. and that he helped out in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Have also previously mentioned him on my blog.)

I'd smile too. I have heard of him and have seen a few of his shows. I think you should invite him to move in for a while, you'd make a good assistant, all that hands on training and all. smile.

Glad your feeling better, and are back in the blogging world. Enjoy and focus on the joys of autumn.

Handy to have a fantasy handyman around. At least you weren't playing doctor! Glad to see you resurfacing. It's been lonely without your comments and observations in my life!

I remember watching his home show when I was little on t.v. I can't believe I can still remember it! He is a Canadian staple.

Glad you are feeling better!

I was a great assistant – hands on or off! ;)
And I will finally enjoy the autumn weather - now that I can go outside.

The Bodhi Chicklet:
Handier still would be a real one.
Missed you, too. :)

Michael:
A Canadian staple - with a staple gun.
(When you were little/young?? You’re still young!)

oreneta:
With the reno you’re about to start, you’ll wish you had him there every step of the way!

sherry lee:
Stop? Too late…
And, okay, okay, I’ll show you the other picture when I see you next! ;)

mouthy irish woman:
Ha! Glad to see you share/appreciate my taste in men – and equipment.
And truly? He is a nice guy.

Holy crap!
I was totally buying that initial story there!
Mike Holmes is AWESOME! I was like.... "What the HELL? He was working our dear Beth over?"
In a related way, I needed some tips on golf this weekend, and received some one-on-one tutoring from Tiger Woods.
[What actually happened --> I got so drunk at a friend's place this weekend I passed out and dreamed I was chased through the woods by a tiger!]

aww for a minute i was almost angy that you made me feel sorry for you for being mega-sick, while you were instead off hammering and getting plastered with the handyman.
but hey, i really am glad you are feeling better and have an autographed picture to prove it.

As well as a love of books, apparently we have something else in common – a rich fantasy/dream life…

Seraphine:
Hey, you should know me better by now – so not like me to invite a strange (albeit nice) man into my home!

You & your tricks. Your son IS very thoughtful. I've never heard of him but secretly harbor sawdust desires to meet someone like him. Glad to read that you're feeling better. I hope your house isn't falling apart. :)

Holmes on Homes with Mike Holmes! That is one man that knows his stuff.

Glad you are feelin' better!

apriliniowa:
“Sawdust desires.” I like that.
And, no, the house is not falling apart - yet. (another knock on wood)

reeny:
You gotta wonder – with a surname like that, was he destined for this line of work?

I hope you're feeling better now and are in shape to face that Canadian winter...

Seraphine said...

so now you're calling mike holmes strange.
i see.

Glad you're feeling better and are back! Does Mike Holmes have a blog? I could leave a message there telling he'd be lucky to meet you in real life!

Attila the Mom said...

When you're done with him, can I borrow him? LOL

Beth said...

Mary-Laure:
Depends on the winter – I’m hoping for a mild one. (Fat chance.)

Seraphine:
Not so much strange as a stranger – and everyone is a stranger until you get to know them. :)

Barrie:
That would be sweet of you, but truly? Not ready to go down that path as yet.

Attila:
But of course – friends share. ;)
