(Some) Weekend Highlights

(Not necessarily in order of importance.)

Wore my flip-flops for the first time this year.

(Summer weather in TO!)

Words spoken to me by a virtual stranger in an antique store:
“My friend rearranges her furniture as often as you and I change our underwear.”

(Huh? How does she know how often I change my underwear?)

Had a great Friday night date!

(Gotcha! My older sister and I chatted on the phone for so long we deemed it as good as a date. Actually, better than some we’ve experienced.)

My kids assured me the LCBO (liquor store) was open on Sunday. I needed two bottles of wine for dinner. (I rarely buy liquor and the LCBO used to be closed on Sundays.) Well, it was open but not until noon. I ended up waiting with a crowd of people for the doors to open. I felt like a lush – dying for my next bottle of booze. My God, they stormed the doors at noon! I did not join the stampede. Retained my dignity.

(Of course my kids wouldn’t mention the time. When are they ever up and out before noon on a Sunday?)

Quotation found in a book I’m reading:

“Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.”
Carl Sagan

(Oh, yes…I love that concept.)

Celebrated my son Ted’s birthday on Sunday. Lots of family, friends and fun. All the boys were home for the occasion. They are crazy dudes!

(Kind of like their mother.)

This was SOME weekend Beth!! And of course I feel like a lush -- I knew the LCBO was open on Sunday and not until noon...BUT...I've never, ever stood outside the door waiting for it to open -- so you're one up on me!!! lol!!

I'm thinkin' the only way that virtual stranger could make a comment about how often you change your underwear might have been if you were wearing those low rider (read fallin off your butt) jeans...I'm just sayin....

Happy birthday to Ted...hope everyone enjoyed that wine!!! ;)

Yeah, and next weekend I plan on standing in line for some free needles. (Do they give those out in Toronto?)
The Sagan quote - inspires hope and wonder. Always welcome.

I'm going to write that Carl Sagan guote on an index card and put it above my desk.

I'm glad you had a great weekend.

Not sure, but I may have read that Sagan book...cracking quote though.

Would've loved to have seen you waiting outside that store with the riff raff! Bet it was an absolute picture!

Nice weekend. Actually, I'm surprised the LCBO opens on a Sunday!

You change your underwear in a furniture store with a stranger?

mrs. g.:
I wonder if we should be actively seeking that "wonder?"

amc:
I actually did a quick inventory as to what I was wearing while I was waiting. Happy to report I was a cut above (barely) the riff raff.

barrie:
Yup - good old staid T.O. is slipping. I looked it up - Sunday openings since '97.

ve:
I've been known to do a great # of goofy things (i.e. going out wearing a t-shirt inside out) but changing my underwear in public isn't one of them. (Yet.)

Sounds like a wonderful weekend, right from the start! Happy Birthday to Ted.

That is too funny about all those people waiting for the doors to open!!

Love, love, love the Sagan quote. It is amazing. Thanks for sharing that, just what I needed to hear tonight!!
XOXO

I love hearing about your big boys. It's like I get to peak into what my world will be like in 15 years or so.

You didn't wear your hipster jeans, did you?

Hope Ted had a good birthday.

Words spoken to me by a virtual stranger in an antique store:

I was surprised at this, coming from a hipster wordsmith such as yourself. The word virtual has taken on a dominant new meaning, for those of us of the connected persuasion anyway, and upon reading the line quoted, I could only imagine Max Headroom wearing a paper bag over his head. Or, to move out of the Dark Ages, an unfamiliar disembodied avatar joggling your virtual elbow as you browsed the virtual store.

I imagine you've virtually had it with me by this point. Before you give me the bum's rush, let me just salute you for not abusing literally. Said transgression would provoke a screed that would make this one virtually instantly forgettable.

Okay, okay. I'll go quietly.

Perhaps I was too harsh about all those other people. Maybe all 25 (?) of them were like me - didn't know the LCBO opened at noon?
(Doubt it.)

mamma:
Keep on being the kind of "mamma" you are, and you will be equally blessed.

shari:
No, but I ate three Belgian chocolates last night so those jeans might fit now. (My tummy hurt.)

cheri:
Those were the highlights! (Kind of like the glass half full...)

brendan:
You know I am not a hipster wordsmith. ("My peeps and I...")
I'm more the old-fashioned type - hence, my use of the word virtual in its old sense. (I was going to use "a perfect stranger" - as in "Love With the Perfect Stranger.")
Max Headroom?? We're going way back.
It's great to know I can drive you crazy with my choice of words. Duly noted for the future!

Love the booze story, too!

What a fun weekend!

Your lining up for the liquor store reminded me of when I was at a conference reception, and lined up for the wine way before it was available. The server kept on shooting me winks and chugging motions every time he saw me again!

Boy you have a lot of comments on this post... seems you hit a vein of commentors... LOL

nothing like standing in front of a liquor store waiting for it to open to make you feel like you are an upstanding citizen.. but doing it in flip-flops!!! now that is just classy.
