Gobble Gobble

I wish I could say the above photo is of my Thanksgiving dinner from last year. Fat friggin’ chance. And I would be called on the lie in the comments section by those who have dined at my home.

My table presentation is always a tad more…uh…basic. (I’m being kind to myself here.)

I’m of the school of decorative thought that believes THE DAMN TURKEY SAYS IT ALL!

Yup, it’s Thanksgiving weekend in Canada, folks.

And I would like to give a special thanks to t
he person who invented the freezer to oven stuffed turkey. Now that is my kind of prep time.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow Canucks!

To all my American friends, Happy Whatever You’re Doing This Weekend.

And no matter what we’re all up to, let’s take a moment (or two or three…) and give thanks for the blessings that we have.

I plan to.

Goodness, I didn't realise....hmmmm, do I say anything or just let the whole thing ride?

Beth said...

carmachu:
We will!

oreneta:
My first inclination is to let it ride...but then you might get a case of the guilts!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, Beth! I hope you will be surrounded by lots of family and friends. And yes, I know I have a LOT to be thankful for.

Why do uncooked turkeys look so goofy?

Happy thanksgiving!
What a spread!

We were separated at birth Beth!! I am so with you on the Butterball frozen stuffed turkey!! It means less time in the kitchen, more time to savour my wine..I am no Martha Stewart and am all about convenience! The thing tastes good too!!! I'm also into Yoder's instant potatoes in the micro..have you tried those?!? Beats peeling and mashing any day. They're in the meat section at Dominion if you're interested.
Lovely table...you have an eye for decorating. Looks nice ... but I'm all about get it on the table folks and enjoy the food, the wine and the talk.
Happy Thanksgiving sister!!

I feel bad--dumb American--I didn't realize it was this early.

Enjoy your holiday.

There are many things we have to be thankful for. My blogging friends definitely included.

What's Thanksgiving all about anyway? We don't have anything like that over here. Well, not that I know of anyway.

Hmmm...greased up bird...

Have a great meal and a good time with the family! I'm with you on that fast turkey preparation. (smile)

I plan to have a great time since tomorrow is my oldest boy's birthday.

Happy Thanksgiving back atcha Beth! And it feels like it's going to be a warm one.

*phew* Not the best kind of weather to have the oven on all day, but I'm not complaining.

y'all have Thanksgiving already??? That's wild!

patricia:
Those bare-assed birds! Plucked and vulnerable. (But yummy - especially the left-overs.)

casdok:
Yeah, quite the spread but it ain't mine!

sherry:
Of course I've tried Yoder's mashed potatoes! Can only get away with using them when thoroughly disguised - say, in a Shepard's pie.
And you think that table is mine??!! Hah! (Re-read the first paragraph.)

coffee mom :
Enjoy hanging out with those precious kids!

mamma:
I'm so glad we have Thanksgiving early - gives us lots of time before Xmas.
And, yes, I will also include blogging pals on my "thankful for" list!

all mod cons:
Well, of course you don't celebrate Thanksgiving in Merry Olde England! To do so, your ancestors had to have come over from England to settle in North America and be so "thankful" for surviving the winter - with the help of the Indians. (Who we later abused...but that's another story...)

princess pointful:
Thanks.
I'll have all three boys around! Enjoy your "Turkey Day" as well.

pavel:
Yeah, love that frozen stuffed bird...
Birthday wishes to your eldest!

beth:
I know it's obscene! Great, huh? Trust you to point that out!

trish:
It'll be great - just keep all the windows open!
Enjoy your day!

Yup, we do. I'll think of you in November!

Beth, you gotta be more like my mom was..who'd take a cake from the bakery, put it on a plate and insist she'd made it...no one knew but those of us who helped her pick it out!! LOL!! :)

Happy Thanksgiving! Thanks for the reminder to thank God for my blessings..

sherry:
Trust me - I've tried many, many tricks! My kids catch me every time. I've put frozen macaroni and cheese in a casserole dish, added more cheese and bread crumbs and passed it off as homemade. Worked for awhile...

princess extraordinaire:
We all need reminders - I sure do.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving. I didn't know Canadians had Thanksgiving. We have to wait till the third weekend in November for ours. There's so much to be thankful for. :)

I'm pretty basic, too, when it comes to the dinner table. You're there to eat, right?

Have a good wkd. :)

of the many blessings that I am thankful for - you are right up there. Thanks, thanks, thanks.

Happy Thanksgiving! I can't remember the last time I made a turkey. :) I've been buying cornish game hens, laying bacon over them and calling it good. It's working so far! And I agree that the table is beautiful. I like to look at beautiful table settings in books and magazines, too. But the time and money it takes to make something look like that? Nah. I'd rather be hanging out with you guys. Have a good one!

Well Happy Thanksgiving there, Pilgrim.

shari:
Hey, we're thankful too! We just celebrate a little earlier in the season. Which I'm thankful for...

msp:
And you're right up there on my list.
Hugs to you.

angela:
I admire people who decorate like that and at times wish I did - those "times" last about 10 seconds!

jr:
Thanks, J.R - aka John Wayne!

Happy Thanksgiving. I'm going to attempt to make a turkey this Monday. If it's not a dismal failure (and I remember), I'll try to take a picture of it all. It'll be my first turkey.

Happy Thanksgiving Beth! I am with you on the prep time! I have to go to my mother-in-laws house, have been since I was 19 years old, and that is exactly how her table looks and we have to dress up. The kids hate it and so do I. I miss the Thanksgivings of my youth, were it was good food, causual, and just about being together. AND cold turkey sandwiches for later. My sister-in-law and I joke about what happens to the left over turkey in our mother-in-laws house? No cold turkey sanchwiches there, the turkey meat is hidden. It is an on going joke, where does she put the left overs? They are so much more fun! Anyway, many blessings to you and your family.

Best of luck with the bird!
And even if it is a dismal failure (i.e. you drop it on the floor - which has happened here) post a picture!
Happy Thanksgiving!

eileen:
We had #1 Thanksgiving dinner last night - a relaxed, almost rowdy good time had by all! #2 dinner is happening here tonight - will probably be a repeat of #1.
And horrors if your MIL tosses the left-over turkey!

Cipriano said...

Beth, that is one SEXY nekked bird there!
-- Cipriano, from remote location in a Mall somewhere on the Prairies.

Beth said...

cip:
Thanks, I kinda liked the look of that "nekked" bird. (In a wholesome, good way, of course...)

I hope (for your sake and for the sake of all those near you) there is a Starbucks in that mall.
