Another Visit

Son # 1 (a.k.a. Army Guy) arrived home last night for a visit!

We’re so lucky he can make these trips home. After the next two (?) training sessions he’ll be much farther away at another base.

He’s still very enthused, doing extremely well and half the time I don’t know what he’s talking about. The military uses acronyms – BIG TIME.

(D.J. – If you’re reading this, we’re talking yet another language — our family has become trilingual.)

I just nod my head as he speaks – happy to listen, happy to have him home.

And, yes, I’m doing his laundry. He usually does it on the weekends. I’d rather he spend this time catching up with friends and family.

I must say, it’s weird having a camouflage uniform in the laundry pile. I’m terrified I’m going to somehow ruin it and get him in big trouble with the military.

CB’d? (Confined to barracks.)

How great to have army guy home!

Real camo in the laundry would be a bit freaky...but I bet you couldn't ruin it if you tried.

I'm with Trish....I think they design that stuff so you CAN'T ruin it. Have a lovely visit.

Try putting in some brand new red socks with it on a hot wash. Go on, I dare you!

Pink camo! TOPS!!

Laundered and not ruined! I checked all the pockets (and there are tons of them) for pens, etc. - anything that might leak.
It is great to have him home - I notice changes (good ones) every time I see him now.

john: That's what a guy would do (accidentally) - not a mom!
Sounds like you may have done it yourself - you know all about new coloured clothes and a hot wash...

Hello from Seattle. (Though currently I am visiting Houston.)

I hadn't thought of acronyms as its own language before. I know that "language" very well. My work involves lots of governmental acronyms, and I get to spend quite a bit of time at various U.S. military bases (don't tell anyone). So I know some of this "language" - perhaps better than I'd be willing to admit.

How does it work in Canada? Do you have English and French acronyms for the same thing or do you pick one or the other? Intrigued.

Ahh...I can honestly say I've never managed to do it. My old dear told me how to do washing and explained all the pitfalls. I had to do my own washing from 17!

I'm very well house trained! I think I will make a very good wife!

thomas: Hello from Toronto. Hope you're enjoying your visit in Houston.

dj: My son's use of acronyms just seems like another language since I have trouble following him...

I honestly don't know how they work here re: French and English. I suspect because the word itself is different, the acronym would be different. But then there's "corporate-speak" (another "language") so you'd think French and English companies would have to use the same acronyms to communicate.
(And I have to listen to my husband speak in that language.)

john: I think I'm insulted.
Wife = house trained?
I think of dogs as being house trained.

Ya, I think it's pretty much indestructable.

I'm so glad that you got to see your baby!

beth: He's on his way back to the base now. Lost his cell phone last night. Arghh! This past week was the first week he's been able to use it to phone home during the week. Crap. Back to the pay phone and line-ups.
Mom now coming to the rescue calling the cell phone company...

How wonderful for you! Now that's what I call the luck of the Irish!

Hope you had a very happy St. Patrick's Day, and enjoy this wonderful weekend!

You know that's not what I meant! At least, I hope not!

patricia: Excellent thinking - son home/luck of the Irish.
Didn't even occur to me to think of that - maybe 'cause our last name is Scottish? Must be an Irish ancestor back there somewhere...

john:

I know you didn't really mean it. ;)

How can you ruin camouflage? Wow. I spelled camouflage the correct way on my first try. I'm sooo proud of myself.

dorky dad: Don't you just love it when you spell a strange (or rarely used) word correctly the first time?

(Re: camouflage - I think I had to correct my first try.)

If anything... the camo will ruin your other laundry!
Have to have a camo only load (aka. COL)

"COL" - another acronym!
