Busy Times...

After my emotional roller coaster of a weekend, I have a busy few days (two weeks?) coming up. I’m taking an on-line writing course that begins today. I checked the site last night and some keeners have already handed in the first assignment. Yikes. Falling behind already.

I’m taking this course for inspiration, discipline and, yes, because I am guilty of producing split infinitives, misusing the comma and ending a sentence with a preposition.

And if you happen to note these flaws on my blog, don’t bother pointing them out to me. I like to think of blogging as a kind of free flowing verse — I don’t want to have to think that hard about grammar rules while writing here.

Of course, I could use my blog as a means of practicing/training for my other writing…..nah.

Other exciting plans? My physiotherapist asked for my assistance this week in demonstrating her hydrotherapy class (which I attend regularly).

I’m a sucker for this kind of request. I’ve said yes to two other medical studies (nothing wrong with me, I’m just asked to check in every once in a while.) My participation is not completely due to altruism. I figure if anything does go wrong with me medically, I have an “in” with some specialists. (With the dearth of doctors in Canada and the horrendous waiting times for procedures, this can’t hurt.)

Back to my physiotherapist’s request. A new crop of physiotherapists-in-training require “models.” I like that word. My PT used it when asking that I volunteer. Bottom line, I’m a guinea pig. I’ll be good at this. I’m not shy in these kind of situations, I’ll willingly answer all their questions and I will perform in the pool. (Think “Flipper.”) However, I really don’t want strangers touching me. Nor do I relish the thought of them observing me too carefully. I’m in a bathing suit!

Which reminds me. Damn. I have to shave my legs for tomorrow morning’s performance.

(As I said, I have a busy day ahead…)

Hmm online writing course sounds like something I should be looking into. I take writing courses/workshops at night from time to time but the weather sometimes gets in the way of attending such things. So online would be the next best thing.

Blogging is all very fun but I need some guidance and direction and prompting too...not to mention grammar bootcamp.

trish: The beauty of this course (or, I guess, any on-line course) is that you won't get in trouble for not handing in assignments and if you want, you can just "lurk" on the message board. On the other hand, you only get out of it what you put into it. And I better start "putting in" - like now.

I write my stuff in word and then copy it to blogger. It will catch most of my spelling and grammar problems. Also, replying to other blogs will get you more visitors than most other methods.

guy: I do the copy and paste from Word too. I just don't like the grammar check - I find myself "arguing" with so much of what it points out. It has been known to be in error.

I was with you and all for it right up to the shaving your legs part.....do you REALLY want to do this? ;)

beth: Yeah, still want to help out but really not keen on the shaving of the legs (etc.)!!

My goodness the glamorous life you lead! A writer AND a model! ;)

Good luck, Flipper!

"A writer and a model!"
Wow - when you put it like that, my life does sound fabulous.

Splish-splash - high-pitched squeaks... (I'm being Flipper..)

Did you SCHEDULE this leg-shaving? Is it on your calendar?

I split infinitives all the time. I end sentences in prepositions. I LIVE life, dangit. I live.

That on-line writing course, where did you dig that up? That might be something I would LOVE to do.

dorky dad: Actually schedule shaving? Hell, no. It's one of those, "I'll get around to it some time today" things.
And, yeah, why let the Grammar Police mess with my mind, my life?

oreneta: This course has already started and is only for 2 weeks. I found it on the Internet (of course, since it's on-line). Just try "Googling" or e-mail me with any questions.

Good luck on the course!

How did the modeling go? ;-)

I'm quite behind on the course (EVEN MORE SO) - thank you very much for asking.
And I cheated as the "model." I gave the students tips and answers to questions they were given. Kind of fun...
