Don't Cry Over Spilt...

Well, I finally did it. I spilt a beverage at my computer desk. Klutz. Frankly, I’m amazed it took me this long considering what little space I have here (paper clutter, paper clutter….).

I’m thanking my lucky stars (whichever ones they happen to be) that my klutziness took place during a health conscious moment in my life. I wasn’t drinking coffee or tea — both of which would have flowed far and wide.

I was sucking back a nutritional strawberry banana yogurt smoothie from a cute little plastic container. Thicker substance — didn’t travel as far.

Of course, I’m still finding pink glop in my keyboard.

I’ve been putting off a thorough cleaning with Q-tips. God, I’d rather buy a new keyboard.

Will I continue to sip fluids while at the computer? Heck, yes — I need the sustenance and the (supposed) creativity that comes with a caffeine high.

Maybe I should just forget the healthy stuff. That’s the only thing I’ve ever split here.

And I’m not counting cookie crumbs and/or telltale signs of chocolate consumption. Liquids only. (And, no, I don’t drool — yet.)

What a mess that must have been!

I haven't yet, so far ....knock wood... spilled anything on my keyboard. But everytime I bring something to drink with me to the computer I cringe at what a catastrophe that would be if I spilled it. The swearing alone....*shudder*

You are taking it very well.

trish: Well, I didn't swear like some of those military guys but the air was kind of blue around here. (Nice colour match with the pink glop...)

see what drinking that healthy junk gets you....glop all over your computer!!! now go drink something really horrible for you....

beth: Yeah, I'm sticking with the bad-ass "hit me" caffeine in the a.m. and tea in the afternoon. Healthy eating is best done away from the computer!

Oh Gawd...what a drag. So how many naughty words did you use when that happened? Heh.

So far with our new computer, no accidents, but it's early days yet. Our old keyboard was like a tattered old book, really...it told many dark tales of coffee, tea, cookies, cereal and other unmentionables that really don't belong in a computer room.

I just read your blog while drinking my cup of tea! It is one (of many) of my worst fears and yet...
I hope you haven't jinxed me.

patricia: I used many naughty words. I'm a big girl - I use big girl words.
How about cat hair in your keyboard? I'm forever blowing away dog hair.
And I'm curious as to the "unmentionables."

msp: I've jinxed many people - and if we both gave it some thought, I've probably jinxed you on occasion.
Don't be afraid re: the tea - I'm still drinking here. (Non-alcoholic - of course.)

Ha ha. 'Unmentionables' is I guess a catch-word for any verboten food. The hubby gets really annoyed when I bring food into the computer room.

I thought of something else that is a drawback to drinking coffee while working...in my studio I MUST have my coffee, but it often causes terrible mishaps -- nothing worse than dipping one's brush into one's coffee instead of one's inkwell! And it's happened more times than I care to mention....and you know what? I drink the coffee anyway! Why waste good coffee? A little ink can't kill you, can it?

patricia:
Hey, a little ink probably adds some flavour. And if you're like me (my coffee ends up lukewarm/cold) any little extra would help.
(I could go somewhere with the dipping in inkwells thing - but I won't...)

I deliberately spill stuff on my work computer so I have an excuse to not work for a while.

I'm really lazy.

I know a guy who managed to put his palm pilot through the dishwasher...yup, ran the entire cycle. Fortunately he is a tech god, and knew to let it dry out. I don't know if he put it in the oven on low or not, but it apparently still works. The cleanest one in town...

I am not saying you should do this to your keyboard though. God, or the techies, only knows what would happen.

dorky dad: And some day, you will pay for your laziness - when ALL the keys stick.

Oreneta: Will definitely NOT be attempting that method of cleaning.
