What Are The Odds?

I own a small car.  If I end up parked between two huge SUVs, backing up is a challenge.  I don’t have a clue what or who may be coming behind in either direction.

Obviously, my parking spot of choice is between two small or normal-sized cars.  However, when I manage to get this coveted spot, invariably one or both cars have been replaced by an SUV upon my return to the parking lot.

Using a perverse sort of logic, on occasion I’ve deliberately parked between two SUVs, hoping at least one will have been replaced by a smaller car by the time I return.  This rarely, rarely happens.  They’re either still there or another SUV has taken one of the spots.

The day the picture below was taken, I’d parked between two small/normal sized cars.  What a shocker when heading back to my car and seeing this!  Despite my consternation, I laughed.  Thwarted – BIG TIME.

Note - there are no cars parked to my left.  I’m assuming no one wanted to be near that massive truck.  Which actually made it easier for me to get out.  I simply backed up a bit, turned left & used all that empty space to get out.

And that, my friends, is the sort of half-assed luck life presents me with – but it’s better than no luck at all.

I hate driving behind them more than parking near them, but I so hear you....

Small cars also tend to 'disappear' in huge parking lots. More often than not, I'm walking around in circles looking for my Civic only to finally find it in between a delivery truck and an Escalade that weren't there before. Argh!

I love your logic and I love how you problem solve...and "I know where you were..." hee!!!

Oreneta:
I think I hate both scenarios equally...

Trish:
Worse is when you’re looking for your car on the wrong parking level! ;)

Sherry:
But no ticket this time!

Glad there was no ticket this time...I swear I still don't know how you got that one...it makes no sense!

Maybe these huge SUV's (or drivers of) feel a subconscious need to protect you!

I love that my last comment was left from my other account (the one I never use anymore!). Did you know it was me?!?! lol!!

Oh dear, I drive a ginormous truck but we have three boys who play hockey and ski and a dog ... I know, excuses, excuses. But I do try not to squeeze into tiny spots making it difficult for others to get in and out. Of course, not living and having to park in the city helps too.

6/1 on. I think.

What aboot catching the bus? Or shopping online & getting it delivered.

I hate parking besides these hummongous SUVs too! Plus I feel like a midget when I walk around them. They can be pretty dangerous in a parking lot, they really block the view.

Sherry/Cherie:
It’s that luck of mine... ;)

Juliette:
If so, they should be around to help me get out of those parking spots!

Sherry:
Actually, that name sort of rang a bell. (Maybe the wrong one, though.) Sage & Thyme?

Cid:
With that sort of cargo, you’re forgiven!

The Author Of This:
Or how aboot I ride a bike and hope I don’t get a flat “tyre?” I’d “tire” very easily making the walk home...

Zhu:
A midget?! Never thought of that but, yeah, the height of those vehicles is quite imposing.

That car park is like the African Savannah compared to most - acres of empty space!

"Car park." Interesting expression. And a true "car park" shouldn't have any trucks parked in it!

And I thought I was the only one with that kind of persecution complex when it comes time for parking or rather, backing out of a parking spot. Why is why I try my hardest to find a pull-through or back in to the spot. So glad the cards brightened your day!

Barrie said...

I thought of you and parked between two trucks this evening. I was able to pull the whole way through, so it wasn't a problem when it came time to leave. Still...it's a bit intimidating. I've recently started driving the older car left behind by our university student. It's WHITE. Ack! I can NEVER find it!

you're a glass half full kind of person aren't you?

The Bhodi Chicklet:
Love those drive-right-through spots! (Backing in is not my forté.)
(The cards are still on display in my kitchen – love them – thanks again!)

Barrie:
Two trucks and an easy exit – lucky you!
Driving a red car is a godsend when I’m trying to find it...

What a memory!
Apparently, I live my life in 1/2s...

I like it! That's funny - kind of a parking fail but kind of a parking victory for you.
Go Beth.

I can't believe I used to drive an enormous SUV. But I know better now.
And, yes, half-assed luck is better than no luck at all. Wishing you are well!

There was a time in my life when I actually drove an orange car. I could find that car in a crowded lot, blindfolded!

Beth said...

Robyn:
It’s that 1/2 assed luck in play. ;)

Barrie:
Don’t see too many orange cars these days!

Angie:
Reminds me of the saying, “If I didn’t have bad luck, I’d have no luck at all!”

Still beats walking.

they do the same to me and my 'relatively' small car, i just back out slowly, trusting pedestifarians to get outta my way, and other drivers to blast their horns, as alerts... so far, so pretty good

another thing i hate: 18-wheelers, side by side, on the highway! GRRRR
