Not Anymore...

Last night I was reading a book in which a character said, “I’m going to give him a piece of my mind!”

I haven’t heard this expression for years.  Nor have I used it.  Which is just as well because as time goes on (i.e. as I get older) there doesn’t seem to be enough of my mind left to give away even a small piece of it.

*sigh*

Whenever I have said this (I'm sure I have at some time over the last few years) I always make sure to say "not too big a piece" because I really can't afford to give it away anymore!! lol!!!

What's the modern equivalent, I wonder? A humongous tongue-whipping?

A thumb lashing, go up one side of him and down the other, take a strip out of him.......we seem to have changed locations from ourselves to the other, no?

diatribe? Do they do this on purpose?

My boys always laugh at me when I used old fashioned expressions like that. But, yeah, anyone who got a piece of my mind would become just as forgetful . . .

Wait. What was that again?

I want to say that if you find a piece of my mind, won't you send it back to me? But that's probably an old joke that even precedes me. I can barely stand not laughing at my word verification: "pottie" - OH PLEASE??!!! Way to set up the weekend!

It's actually quite horrible when you think f it literally.

It may be a BE expression as I heard it before... or maybe it was in my old English books at school!

don't confuse 'mind' with 'brain'! :P lol

the former you can give 'pieces' away from, and it remains whole ;)

OF ALL THE THINGS I'VE LOST IN MY LIFETIME, WHAT I MISS MOST IS... MY MIND!

I'd most certainly avoid this cliche when my fictional characters speak ... they've got minds of their own ... just not physical brains.

another expression that always amuses me is "I'll keep an eye out"
