Potty Talk

Does this picture inspire confidence?  Two (two!) toilet bowl plungers at the ready. Even one plunger in a restroom cubicle would be enough to give a person pause.

And did I pause?  Only for a matter of seconds.  When you gotta go, you gotta go…  A full bladder demands respect.

There was one other cubicle - with a symbol marking it as wheelchair accessible and with no plunger in sight.  Tempting, but I could not bring myself to use it.  What if a person in a wheelchair had to avail themselves of the facilities and I was caught using that one?  I’d have felt so guilty…just terrible.  Would I have been reported?  Fined?  Is my reluctance to flaunt the rules a Canadian thing (so polite, obedient & accommodating) or is it simply a Beth thing?

Pleased to report the use of a plunger wasn’t required.  But I certainly scooted out of that stall ASAP after flushing.  And I wonder - would I have actually used the plunger had the toilet overflowed?  Am I THAT accommodating?

If I thought I’d feel awkward being caught in the other cubicle, imagine how I felt at the thought of being caught taking a picture of a toilet!  What a bizarre fetish…

They'd make pretty good weapons if someone tried to interrupt your doings. Maybe you should have taken one as a souvenir.

I think it's a polite Canadian thing

It's half and half Beth...half that we are so insanely polite and proper and the other half is a Beth thing...because if the other toilet had already overflowed...or if it looked as bad as that, I'd have taken my chances on the handicapped spot!!!

and btw...after I'd used the handicapped stall, if there was anyone else in the restroom waiting, then I'd have been 100% Canadian, apologizing all over myself for doing what comes naturally!! lol!!

I would have used the handicapped stall for sure! Me being French :-)

Unless there was someone waiting for it, obviously. I'm still Canadian.

prolly meant for the plungerless cubicle...

matters not about the disabled sign: it just means they are ABLE use it, NOT that others can't, if there's no option... yeah i'm a canuck

Maybe you should start a new collection of photos. I suddenly feel like such a rebel - I often use the "challenged" bathroom stalls as they have a little more room than your standard. I figure if someone "challenged" comes in, they will have to wait their turn as it could be just as likely a previously "challenged" person got in there first.

I would've been tempted to photograph that scene too. Very odd.

I use the handicapped stall with guilt and apprehension. It's generally the cleanest and - of course- the roomiest. Moreover, when you gotta go you gotta go.

Public toilets ... this is where civilization turns in on itself.

I have to admit that I often use the handicapped stalls. So much easier to hover over the raised toilets. As for the plungers? You are a braver woman than I.

I'm leery of the "self-flushing" toilets. For ages I'd end up having to do a dance in front of the one at my kid's therapist's office because the darn thing wouldn't flush and I was trying to activate the sensor. Finally I figured out there was a hidden lever to manually flush the darn thing....
