Should I Carry a Compass?

“And this is what I have learned – that no matter where I go in life, I’ll always end up there.”

Huh?

Some words of wisdom are simply too profound, too simple, state the obvious or just plain go over my head.

I actually paused when I read this line - paraphrased slightly to protect the book which I enjoyed. I thought I’d hit upon an Oprah or Dr. Phil moment. Neither of whom I watch. (Cross my heart - true as true.)

I’m thinking there are far too many of these “kumbayah,” guide-me-on-the-right-path utterances these days.

“Hey, I made it – I finally got here!”

Where else was I going to end up? Over there?

Yes, I’m somewhat of a cynic and I stumble a bit on that path to here, there and everywhere…but I’m pretty good with precise directions.

BUT if I took specific paths throughout life wanting to end up anywhere but THERE, where does that leave me?

Huh?

As they (who ever they are) say, "It's not about the destination, but the journey. Or in the words of Tom Cochrane, Life is a Highway ;-)

It's a paradox. If you end up there it becomes here. And what used to be here becomes there. So you never get there.

If you do not change direction,
you may end up where you are headed.

...a compass will not help here ;)

it reminds me of that stupid saying "no matter how short or tall you are, your feet always touch the ground."

i can prove we're not here.
we're not in bankok, are we?
we're not in london or new york.
if we're not in baghdad, we must be somewhere else, right?
if we're here, we can't be someplace else.

so when somebody tells you you'll end up THERE, it's not true. HERE is where the heart is. right next to my elbow.

I like this post. I'm a cynic too. Thus, no matter where I go in life, I'll end up nowhere in particular.
Cheers,

I'd carry a compass, but then since I don't know how to read a map I don't think it would help.

I'm going somewhere, not sure how but eventually I will get there.

When you're completely lost, any direction is as good as another. To quote Andrew Bird: "...with GPS it's all just a matter of degrees..."

I wish I had precise directions, wouldn't that make it all so much easier? I kept asking for that book when Melanie was born. LOL. I really did, why doesn't it exist?
So due to all the external factors like people, job situations, broken cars, houses that need roofs, mental illness, etc. I jump from path to path, but I don't think I always end up at the same spot. If I do, I know I've changed a little bit or learned something. If not, I know I'll just be on these proverbial paths and journeys for the rest of my life.
I think I'm okay with that because one thing I do know is that change is good. Being stuck is not. I've been stuck on some paths too long. Does this make any sense at all?
You made me laugh and think, a good combination.

I don't think there's a there to get to either. But maybe what some mean when they say that is that they're no longer the dumb kid they used to be?

I don;t know.

That quote though...huh is right!
