Serves Me Right (or Wrong)
This is what you get when you’re a lousy ho-hum gardener but finally succumb to the pressure of your front lawn shining like a yellow beacon (dandelions) amidst the lush green lawns of ALL your neighbours’ and so you grab an inappropriate tool from the garage and attack those suckers with a vengeance – plunge, scoop, fling – and the adrenalin kicks in ‘cause you’re so pissed off when you realize that for every bloody hell perky yellow flower there are five other dandelion patches surrounding it (this will take forever!!) and so you pick up the pace - heave-ho, heave-ho - until you suddenly notice there is blood dripping down your wrist…and so you pause…and you stop…
…to observe this dripping blood with wonder and awe – amazed that not only were you oblivious to the creation of a blister, you didn’t even know it had broken AND that the blood has also seeped into the wooden handle of that wacko tool…
Calmly – oh so calmly - you rise with aching knees and sore back, collect the dandelion kill, dump it by the garage, go into the house, wash the blood and gore from the palm of your hand (cringing at the flap of skin) and shed some tears because the adrenalin rush has ceased and, yes, it hurts like hell and because you are still frustrated and mad – both at the dandelions and at yourself for having tackled the job in such a WRONG idiotic way and so have no one to blame but yourself and, yes, that hurts, too…
And the job is not complete.
p.s. the above photo is not one of my blister – mine is an open wound - yuck

*Ouch*!
Hope it heals up soon
Aw honey, I'm so sorry.
Sorry for the blister, sorry that your frustrated. I kind of like dandelions....if I were there I'd come and help and we could chat and drink tea and pluck dandelions.....
take it easy on yourself, m'kay?
I'd have left the dandelions there. They're so pretty. All that yellow. Plus it's easier than getting rid of the weeds.
Oh God! Yardwork!!
Ow. Talk about being in the zone. Anyway, keep it clean or you could end up with a green thumb.
Better wear gloves next time. Alternatively, you could buy a goat and let it graze.
...ow.
Instead of being like your neighbors, you should start a new trend: weeds! They are really easy to grow.
I am glad I don't have a lawn.
So sorry about your open blister. It must hurt like crazy.
Ah, Canadians and gardening... Looks like it almost as dangerous as hockey!
Yowza. Just proves my personal theory that dandelions are beautiful and have reason to live. They also have medicinal properties which makes me think there is a reason they are so prolific. Ah, but we all succumb to the social pressure of weeding. Let's call it being human. That must have been some adrenaline rush - I hope you are self-medicating after the fact with at least a 40% alcohol content.
Nah, I say: damn dandelions! Sorry for your pain, and may you heal quickly.
Cheers,
Robyn
oh yum, blood blisters... not! :(
i'd get me some weed kill...
Oh! Get your sons to do it, I say! That does sounds painful.
On the bright side, you can make lots of free salads...
Also, weed killer. Just once.
Gardening? Are you sure? ;-)
I was just whining in another blog's comment section about my lack of even the space to garden. I didn't realize, in my whining, that it was quite so hazardous.
Will you be making dandilion soup? Wasn't that Susanna Moodie recipe???! Anyway, sorry. That looks like a painful drag. I think my sister pours boiling water on them.
blisters ouch- but what a great word, eh?
i like dandelions! :)
Poor you. There is something about a garden that can send someone into an irrational frenzy.
I have been admiring my dandelions. They are rather pretty before they go to seed.
But after a month away, the work needed in MY garden is overwhelming. So far I'm choosing to just ignore it.
