Enough Already...

“There will be no crying because the crying has crouched low in the sockets behind her eyes, and hiding there, it transforms itself. This is crying’s best magic, transforming itself into withdrawal and weariness and a low-grade, humming strength.”

~Bonnie Burnard – Suddenly

I wrote a serious tear-jerker of a post to accompany the above quotation, read it over this morning and decided to scrap it. Enough with the boo-hoo poor little old me stuff.

Yeah, I cry, I get weary and I’m strong. The same can be said about most people – if guys would admit to crying.

I’m all for expressing your feelings on your blog, encourage others to do so and have done my fair share of whining. I just don’t feel like it today. I’m in more of a “shit happens, deal with it” mood.

But I must say, writing that scrapped post was cathartic.

On a lighter note, I’ve managed to indulge in some “farting around” since my last post and despite life’s most recent hellish challenge. I will be damned sure to incorporate more of the same in my life. It keeps me sane. Laughter keeps me sane.

Has anyone got any good jokes they’d like to share?

The jokes I have to tell should not be told in public. =) Glad you got it out...even if you chose not to publish it. Sometimes all we need is to see it "out there" even if "out there" turns out to be for our eyes only.

I'm glad you are farting around more and writing cathartic prose even if it's for your own eyes...but whining? You? That's not a word I associate with you. At all!!

I cry! Like, LOADS. In fact, I cry so much that I can't pee for days and days because I've got no spare liquid in me. The same as when you're sick and sick and sick, then you just dry wretch? Yeah, I can dry pee.

And all because I'm in touch with my emotions.

Pffft, bollocks!

I thought there'd be a lot of jokes in the comments, since that's what you asked for.

And I was looking forward to being popular around the water cooler today :-(

Scrapped as a post but saved in a folder - a reminder to “get over myself.”

Sherry:
Thanks – good to know. I really dislike whining – perhaps I’m a bit paranoid as to watching for it in myself. (Waa, waa…)

AMC:
Ah, a guy honest enough to admit to crying – and dry peeing. ;)
I knew you were special!

nursemyra:
Yeah, well, I’m stuck telling myself old “knock, knock...” jokes.

I wish I could make you laugh but I suck at telling jokes! Okay, maybe one funny website for you, I check it at work when I'm stressed out and it make all of us laugh: http://notalwaysright.com/

Whining is fine you know. French are master when it comes to it, we even have a cool verb for it: râler.

I'm so bad at jokes, they just kind of come up when I'm talking in conversation. I think I'm funny when, I chat, I amuse myself anyway, lol. I think whining can serve a purpose, but it is when one gets stuck there, it becomes a problem. I should know. I'm glad your writing was cathartic, even if you didn't post it.

Farting around is always more fun.
Enjoy the rest of your week.

We must be on the same wavelength - last night I also wrote a HUGE poor lonely expat me post... and this morning I 'tore' it up.. no use complaining when I don't do anything about it myself!

I am reading a book called Stop Aging, Start Living. Actually quite good... and she talks about Laughter.. a lot. In fact she incorporates it into all her programs. Have to say, that recently I have been cracking myself up by leaving absurd comments on peoples blogs.. just because I can. Man, I have to get a life!

Jokes. No, I don't have any. Tears. Those I have. Weariness and shit happening. Yes. But I've also got some coffee waiting to be perked and finally a sunny day outside. A joke. Maybe a riddle. Yesterday is not today. So what is today? The day that trains to be tomorrow.

Nothing wrong with a little whine if you've got some cheese and crackers. Can you see past the fresh hell to a brighter day? Did they turn off the light at the end of the tunnel? Some time periods are like that. One day you'll look back on this, laugh nervously and change the subject.

I have no jokes today but I'm all for farting around and crying when it's needed.

I'm terrible at jokes . . . but very good at farting around. Come to London and fart around with me?

I feel anxious about whatever is making you cry. I wish that shit WASN'T happening.

i am in favor of farting around.
in fact, letting all that *stuff* build up in one's intestines is unhealthy. it contributes to grouchiness, intolerance and, even worse, pimples and war.
farting is, as you say, cathartic. so let the dogs out; flavor the broth; open the passages; lower the drawbridge; greet the day with a monstrous blast of full-bodied, earth redeeming, aroma ala soul.

nock nock. who's there?
beth. beth who?
beth wisheth to you thweety!

Ok, now I want to read it!!!!

You're such a good writer that it just have to be good.

I mean the post...not the fart LOL

The fact that you have a quotation by Bonnie Burnard at the top of your post is part of the reason I love to read your blog! (Of course, your brilliance, insightfulness, humour, etc also come into play.)

Beth!!! HUGS. Sorry I've been gone so long. Going through a lot of "ftuff". Good post. I can be a whiner for other reasons. Mostly empathy. I have had written a few posts that seem too pathethic and I only draft them. Writing can be therapeutic. Get if off your chest. Keep it private or share.
