First Folder - Tenth Photo

Cid of Blog Like No One is Reading tagged me for a game of photo tag called First Folder - Tenth Photo. From the first folder of photos you created on your computer, you post the tenth photo.

I cheated. The tenth photo* was a goofy one of me. So, instead I’ve posted the eleventh photo. I’m also to do a brief write-up as to the story behind said photo, so here goes…

Before BooksEtc. came into being I’d started to create a blog to promote my writing. I scrapped the idea. However, I still have the folder of pictures and images I was going to use on that aborted blog. The above photo is one of them.

Yes, I have written for some of the various True Magazines - those legendary romance rags. These particular stories of mine do not represent my finest literary efforts but they’re not as easy to write as one might assume and the competition is fierce. The money is excellent – certainly better than the little or no monies received for publication in literary journals.

My story A Fairytale Prince & All That Jazz made it on the cover of this particular magazine. It was actually quite a thrill at the time. When you write for these magazines you don’t receive any credit – i.e. your name is not used. That’s okay with me - again, the money makes it all worthwhile .

This was an interesting tag in that it prompted me to write about something I’ve never mentioned before on this blog. And although I cheated with the photo, I did use that First Folder.

If you’re interested in participating, consider yourself tagged.

Sherry? Bee? The Bodhi Chicklet? Oreneta? Cip? Guy? Reeny? Deidre? Laughingwolf? Cheryl? Zhu? AMC?

Anyone??? Come on, play with me.

* Can’t believe I ever considered using that goofy picture on that blog…yikes…

Great post, I see those mags at our little grocery store all the time (I was horrified when we first moved that they might be my literary peer group here)But I know from working at Quill & Quire way back when that romance writing is a great way to pay the bills. Maybe you could post a serialization of the Fairy Tale Prince & All that Jazz;)

I now understand why you didn't laugh me off the floor when I suggested "chick lit" last year at Chapter's!!! Writing, doing what you love and being published...no matter the genre...it's exciting!!

Me? Participate? When I come back from my extended computer-less hiatus (I'm having a peek today!) I'll see what I can do!

I see they also used your photo on the cover. Didn't mention that did ya!

Yeah, I'm in. It'll have to be a couple of posts from now though. Got quite a good photo too.

I'm so glad you've played the game and that we've learned something new about you. Intriguing! I'd love to read the story!

Yes. I will join you. Thanks for the invite, and be on the lookout for a post next week.

Happy weekend!

Copyright infringement if I posted it or do I have on-line rights? Hmm...
Thanks again for the tag.

sherry lee:
Ultimate chick-lit! And, yeah, it's fun to write and get paid for it.
Hope you do participate when you return.

amc:
You blew my cover - so to speak.
Glad you're in - I'm really, really wondering about that "good" photo of yours.

deidra:
I'll be watching for it - give us something new and intriguing about you!

So, you wrote for True Confessions? How very fun! You're full of surprises!!

Wow, as soon as I ever use a photo I delete it from my Library.
I would never ever at all be able to ever find even REMOTELY REMOTELY REMOTELY my tenth photo of anything.
I'm an instant deleter, I guess.

Now there's a real true confession! I had no idea that kind of stuff paid so well, but then again there is a huge audience for it, isn't there? Thanks for sharing and letting us know about another little corner of your life.

Hmmm...I noticed that mag is geared toward women....I suppose it's full of kissy stuff, isn't it?

I only started making digital folders about 6 months ago . . .so my pic will probably be quite recent, and nowhere near as interesting as this one!

Somehow the "all that jazz" bit makes me think that your story had a bit of snark in it.

OMG!!! I used to sneak and read those magazines when I went with my grandma to get her hair done!!! They usually had some "scandalous" story in them and she wouldn't let me read them!

That is so cool! I can say I know an author who wrote for True Romance!!

Okay, I will play, I will play!

This is kind of a fun fact on you. Written words always have meaning, even if we have to act a bit like chick lit' is waaaay above us! :D

I keep on thinking of the goofy picture now... :D

It is so great that you wrote for such mags! I'm sure it was tons of fun.

Hey! No fair. The rules say tenth picture and that means the tenth. Now post the silly pic.

P.S.

I actually say wiseacre. I guess it must have be the residual influence of growing up with the Three Stooges

Huh, maybe that's something I should look into. I could definitely use some extra cash! Where would you even find magazines like that? How did you get involved?

Hello ~ I've just found your very interesting blog. I'm trying to get my poems and stories in print, I believe it's a long road to this, and I may have to buy some hiking boots for the journey ..
