Eternal Youth

Yup. I was right. I’m now wearing braces – but of a very simple kind. A bonded wire was affixed to my six bottom front teeth today. Saints be praised, the wire is on the back of the teeth although this set-up is irritating my tongue something fierce.

I was very, very good during the procedure. In fact, I was told afterward, “Working on you was like working on a mannequin.” In other words, a dead body. I totally zoned out. Best way to endure that kind if thing – if you can.

I know this wire is a very minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things, but still, what next?

Well, after the ortho visit, I had an appointment to get my hair trimmed. (And, yeah, dyed – again. I really hate this dyeing the hair routine.) Anyway, I decided to get my hair cut really short, pull my bangs back with a barrette, go around with my mouth pursed (to hide the wire which is certainly visible to me because, of course, I keep opening my mouth WIDE to look) and make the transformation back to childhood complete.

My riveting appearance and allure just continue to improve with age. Amazing, isn’t it? One might think I’ve made a Faustian pact with the devil.

No current photo with the wire in place – you’ll just have to trust me that with my hair cut short, etc., I look exactly like I do in the photo above – with just a few (!) laugh lines added to that chubby face.

Retro is in. Make it a plastic butterfly barrette and soon you'll be on the pages of DO'S.

i'm a little jealous about the braces. i always wanted them growing up. it'd be awesome to have perfect, perfect teeth.

Congrats! I went through ten years of braces, but I maintain that if I hadn't gotten correction as a youth, I totally would have done it as an adult. You're going to be so happy with the results!

Plastic butterfly or not, I think I'm already retro - my fashion sense certainly is. (And not in a cool way.)

Was always in training to "purse" or to pucker up!

My mom said I could. ;)

seraphine:
I'd already had braces as a kid - and that didn't turn out so perfectly!

barrie:
As do I - and I don't post them!

mom of three:
I'm already happy - I'm now allowed to bite with those teeth. :)

casdok:
A bit of a sore tongue today, but not too bad...

bee:
Not looking quite so sweet and innocent these days. Life's lessons - and wisdom - are now etched on that face. :)

hmmm... if you don't wanna dye, why do it?

at least they are laugh lines instead of worry lines...

Looks like you've come full circle! Nasty bit of business about your tongue. I guess eating salt and vinegar chips is out of the question for the time being. How long to do have to be wired?

Oh, what a cutie pie you were and I'm sure, photo or not, you still are!
Yes, think about the end results. I had braces as an adult too and I felt so self conscious about them. I also hated the extras care I had to take with them. To this day I brush after every single meal, out of habit. But now I'm so glad I had them. And as far as habits go, that's not a bad one.

Puberty all over again. Result!

Aw, you were such a cutie. You know, they do have transparent braces. Here in the U.S. a lot of people, including one of my friends, use Invisalign, and you can't even see it.

I probably need braces, but if I got them I'd definitely go the transparent route. My teeth aren't crazy or anything, but they could be straighter.

You're so lucky. Nothing like the metal mouth I've got.

Congrats on your braces. I've been wanting to go the invisible brace route for some time to correct some minor imperfections but fear of dentist prevents me from that!

And, I totally understand on the hair dye situation. Gosh, do I hate to dye my hair but unless I want to look like I've gone up Mt. Sinai and have spoken with God, then dye I must.

Congrats on your new look!
