Hello Canada

What the hell???

“50 Most Beautiful Canadians” and I’m not included in the list??!!

Who the heck’s in charge of this magazine? What pissant screwed up the assignment?

Had this glaring omission not occurred and they’d asked me the question, “When do you feel most beautiful?” I’d actually have been hard-pressed to come up with an answer. Unlike Shania, it’s not when I get out of the tub – unless the mirrors are somewhat fogged up. Nor would I say after a few drinks because I don’t drink often enough and I do feel beautiful more frequently than that. When I’m all dressed up? Not really – don’t do that often enough either.

Maybe on those occasions when I’m smiling, laughing, happy, content and totally unselfconscious of myself? Does that make sense? How can I feel beautiful when not conscious of myself? Ah, never mind...

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, a state of mind, etc., etc. Or, in Stendhal’s words, “Beauty is the promise of happiness.” I think his words take into account just about everything in the world we perceive as beautiful.

And, hey, to be honest, I didn’t even buy the magazine – just looked at the cover.

I MAY VERY WELL BE ON THAT LIST!

(they just never got around to asking me the question…)

Real Canadian beauty isn't only skin deep but is usually covered by Deep Woods Off. Happy Victoria Day!

Celine freakin' Dion better not be on that list or I would believe the evaluators to be blind, that or partial to women with horse shaped features.

I think I am at my most beautiful when I am caught doing the robot whilst doing the dishes thinkin no one else is around....

For the record I think Sarah Polley is WAAAAYYY more attractive that Shania Twang.....

Good to know. (Although I'm not quite sure why...)

You've obviously read it. It's confirmed - I'm not in it. FOOLS!

Our version of the perfect skin lotion.
Happy Victoria Day to you, too. Enjoy the black flies!

reeny:
That would be a perfect time for your beauty to shine - a totally unselfconscious moment!

You are on my Hot Canadian Blogger list if that helps.

there are many definitions of beauty. i rather like the one that says beauty makes you feel better about yourself. that encompasses many things: a word, a lick, a starry night.
they should have included you on their list.

It definitely helps. That would be a far more exclusive list.

seraphine:
I like that definition - it explains those times I do feel beautiful.

Did Keifer Sutherland make that list?

The older I get the more I let go of my desire to look like a cover girl. I'm not even close anyway. And I feel more beautiful now then when I was younger. Ease with oneself is definitely beautiful.

Actually, I was on the list, but I paid them to take me off of it. I want to keep a low profile and all, could never handle those thousands of comments on my blog posts - I'd have to quit my day job and we all know how much satisfaction that brings to my extraordinary life. Truth be told, I paid them to take YOU off of it too, just to drive you a little crazy. It worked, didn't it?!

I think I am most beautiful when I forget about the external but forge ahead, trying to connect to people. But there hasn't been invented a camera that catches that essence. Or has there and it's only available to Canadians.

Beth, I honestly think these "Most Beautiful" things are really quite dumb.
For instance, Yahoo right now is featuring the Maxim 100 Most Beautiful Women or whatever and I clicked on the thing to see the Top 15.I mean, yes, of course all of them were "not very ugly" [<-- my summation] but really..... to categorize like this.... I suppose the only way it can be measured is if people VOTED or something, but even so, I just think it is crazy.
For instance, Mila Kunis was at #5?
COME ON!
She is more like..... should be at #2.
And Adriana Lima at #7?
You've gotta be kidding me.
She should be #1.
And stuff like that....

Why do you feel beautiful on those occasions when you're not conscious of yourself? Ah, because that is when your unfiltered 'true self' is revealed and it is beautiful indeed! Nothing worse than practiced or edited beauty, don't you think?
