Last Friday our loving, gentle giant of a dog was put to sleep.
(There is no good expression for this deed.)
The boys and I came to this decision in our own individual ways but each of us came to it with our love and respect for Major. And we stayed with him – he was not alone, was still surrounded by that love.
It is so difficult to separate the knowing when it’s time from the loving but one day, finally, you realize that all the accommodations you’ve been making are not just for him but for you - for your desire to keep him with you.
Major brought us such joy and unconditional love for 13 ½ years. And how he made us smile! To let him go with his dignity and amazing spirit intact was the gift we gave him in return.
We knew we would miss him fiercely – we just never could have anticipated what a tremendous impact his absence would have upon our lives.
