Why Beth is Going a Wee Bit Crazy
Thursday’s legal meeting went well – if you consider basically starting from scratch a good thing. Which I do. Relatively speaking. (I changed law firms after seven months of no action.)
One complaint. Why is common sense not used in these matters?
Oops. Silly question. The law and lawyers are involved – the latter having a great deal to do with creating the former.
Was late getting home – missed my hydrotherapy class, the dog was in barf mode, son # 1 cleaned up a pile using paper towels, flushed paper towels down toilet, toilet overflowed. A neighbour dropped by and began crying over the loss of her (15?) year old car. I extended my sympathies while noting the incongruity of it all.
Was saved from this by the arrival of dinner – Swiss Chalet. Dog still not well but begging for fries. Insurance agent called with request to drop in later. Did so. I signed papers re: changes in coverage. (Note to self – inform lawyer.)
Highlight of the evening? The Leafs won. (Thanks, guys.)
Friday – many phone calls made and a search and photocopy mission instigated for (more) financial papers for lawyer. Furnace making weird noises again. Appointment for next Tuesday made. (Dear God – let this furnace last ‘til then….)
And I am behind on every aspect of Christmas preparation. Can you be behind if you haven’t started?
Bah humbug.
I have a massive To Do list for today. And I don’t want to go outside. It is very, very cold.
I should add “Count My Blessings” to the list but I’m putting that off until tomorrow.
Such a procrastinator…

Sounds like a very good day to stay home and pamper yourself. Read, stay under the covers, read and read some more. To do lists can wait. Too much stress, all in one day, puts you on overload. If it makes you feel any better, I have not started any Christmas shopping at all yet. I just can't get into it!
Seriously, I declare today a Beth takes a day off and does nothing but relax day. Officially stated.
XOXOXO
Great writing - reminds me of Erma Bombeck.
Yikes! Tis the season...
Go easy on yourself and keep surfing the waves that are coming at you. The water will calm soon I'm sure (or you'll get to sit on the beach for a while and just watch the surf).
As for lawyers, here's Groucho Marx quote that brings the legal eagles to mind:
"Those are my principles. If you don't like them I have others."
Darling, this is where I break out the internet cliches and do this...
((((HUGS)))))
You can count your blessings another day. Wallowing in frustration is justified sometimes.
Why do guys think you can fill a toilet bowl with something thick and it will flush?!?!?!?
Loved this post, though I am sorry your to do list is reaching from here to infinity ( and beyond .. a little buzz lightyear to brighten the day )...Christmas will get here and you'll be prepared...I feel it.
I'm doing a dance to keep the furnace going...
And I loved the graphic!!!!! Is your hair colour "lisaliscious"??
STAY INSIDE!!! I haven't been out yet but it's cold in the house (mind you our power was off for an hour so that cooled things down considerably) and if you don't need to go out..stay in. Order Swiss Chalet again.
I'm trying to talk oldest into going to Starbucks & bringing back a coffee and I'm seriously thinking I'll have my dinner delivered tonight too!
I think you need a People magazine and a Snicker's bar. This combination has been known to thwart all kinds lethargy...Christmas will still be here next weekend. Trust me.
Feel better.
eileen:
The fact that you haven't started Christmas shopping makes me feel better. (It shouldn't, but it does.)
gary:
You missed the old post about Beth and ocean waves...sand, sand everywhere...
I've copied that quotation - love it.
princess pointful:
The (((hugs))) are accepted with much appreciation.
sherry:
No! My hair colour is not like Lisa's! Heaven forbid.
Your "stay inside" order? Might go with it tomorrow re: the massive snow storm that's on its way.
mrs. g:
Slipped that old rag mag in with my grocery order...and bought some two-bite brownies. (Instead of making shortbread.)
Greetings Beth, from the reigning KING of Dealing With Pet Barf!
My cat Jack manages to hack up on the hour!
Whether he wants to or not, and most often, into my shoes.
Poor guy. He's at home right now, while I am here in blustery cold Belleville [halfway to Bethville]... I left the TV on for him, but you know what? He is probably not watching it at all. Probably has his head rammed into one of my shoes, violently retching [I swear he levitates] even as I write about the event itself!
And lawyers?
They are a necessary evil.
Your experience with them is bad. Mine, however, is good.
A lawyer once saved my life, basically. I would have literally handed him my PIN number and told him he could have what he wanted. He got me an aquittal.
And I've learned my lesson.
That's the LAST time I joke around with ANY airport security people about how much my hair dryer looks like it has a scope on it, as we both look at my suitcase going through the radar machine.
Hi Beth! Don't stress Christmas. It's amazing how it can be accomplished in a short period of time. We just let it take over the month of December. Hang in there. Be good to yourself. And I miss Swiss Chalet!
Wow, that is a lot going on there! I hope things slow down for you soon.
cip:
Bethville. Has a nice ring to it.
Very tempting to joke around with airport security (yeah, those no-heel backless shoes of mine are going to hide a lot...) but I'll resist from now on.
Is Jack afflicted with massive
hairballs?
barrie:
Hours after I posted, I realized it was only December 1st! Plenty of time - to fret...
myutopia:
Oh, they will - things tend to go in spurts around here.
(I'm looking forward to a "spurt-less" day...)
Honey, you ain't procrastinating...you're buried. And you cannot be behind in Christmas prep on Dec 2...I once did all, read every single present, at 7-11 on Christmas eve around 11pm. Hope folks like Archie Comics...hang in there, at least there is movement with the new lawyers, however uncomfortable.
so, I probably should not tell you that it's 77 degrees Farenheit here....
i'm dragging on Christmas stuff too. We aren't having anyone over for the holidays, so I just don't want to go all out & do much of anything!
oreneta:
Yes, I am buried. Literally. Massive snowfall and freezing rain here. But (some) progress on the Christmas prep - eldest bought outdoor lights. (Wrong kind.)
lainey-paney:
I'm no longer dreaming of a White Christmas - I'm dreaming of a trip to Texas.
Take your time. It looks like you have enough on your mind. I've been doing some online shopping so I don't have to deal with the crowds and get to the store when it's convenient for Hubby. Yesterday I got some gift cards, too. I still have 22 days to fret...
awww, Beth....you are having a time of it, aren't you? I can't imagine what you're going through, but I am with you on every level, if that makes sense at all.
Be well....and that furnace guy better show up this time!! ;)
Hi Beth! Look at me, actually commenting on your blog! I could have been a lawyer, but I decided to pursue a career of writing nonsense instead. Hey, wait...
And no, I still haven't checked out The Gum Thief by Douglas Coupland. But I will. Some day.
