Finis

Okay, it’s over.

Technically, today is Thanksgiving Day in Canada but we’ve already done the family dinner thing. Twice.

Does anyone else take such great pleasure in putting away all the seasonal decorations as I do?

(Finished, done with you, back to your place in storage…)

I find it cleansing…

I am so bad.

You are not alone. I do the same with Christmas. Huge build up then that dread layered with satisfaction when all the decorations are stashed away.

I make it easy on myself...I put out very few decorations for Thanksgiving and Easter, saving the "big wow" for Christmas, where I tend to go into a decorating frenzy. Hauling it all out is no fun...gathering it all up to put away is even less fun...it looks bare here when I've retuned the house to normal. Perhaps I will just go "simple" this December and save myself the hassle!! Less is the new more!!

Just pulling out my Halloween decorations. Seems like it's non-stop decorating from now until New Year's.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I get so excited about those decorations. As for any other holidays, the date usually comes and goes without much fanfare.

I think I am going to start having a Canadian Thanksgiving and an American Thanksgiving. I wonder if my office would allow me an additional paid holiday?

I think that's a good thing! And what's that saying? "Good girls go to Heaven -- Bad girls go everywhere"? You go, girl!

What decorations do you put up for Thanksgiving? Is it like Christmas only early?

I actually can't wait for Christmas to arrive, just so that I can get into the spirit of loathing it in all my Humbug glory.

I am queen of dragging sh*t out, and then never wanting to put it away. I can be lazy like that.

Christmas is even worse than Thanksgiving. I feel under immense pressure to leave decorations up until New Year's Day. (Needless to say, I often succumb to the urge to purge!)

sherry:
I relish that bare look when the place gets back to normal! (Oh, I am so bad...)

mamma:
Yeah, stopped myself from putting away decorative pumpkins and the like - they work for Halloween too.
(Bah-humbug.)

charlotta-love:
Hey, give it a try - tell the office you have Canuck blood in the family!
As for me, one TG is enough...

angela:
So weird. Just read that good girl/bad girl expression in a book. And believe it or not, I'd never heard it before.
Sounds like bad girls have more fun...

all mod cons:
Ah, you poor bereft English lad. You are missing so much! It's not like Xmas (thank god). We decorate with pumpkins, gourds, scarecrows, dried corn husks... As I write this, it all sounds so bizarre! I'm stopping now.

lainey-paney:
My pleasure in putting it all away far outweighs my reluctance for the chore of doing so. And my reluctance is pretty darn high!

Then we can be bad together. We haven't had Thanksgiving yet, but Christmas really gets me...I am ready to take all that crap down the day after!!! Scrooge!

Interesting blog and very interesting squash plant! I'm 3 hours behind you so we're doing Thanksgiving later today. It's a pretty benign holiday to me - mostly about food, wine and company, with some nods to being thankful (which I really do feel today).

thanks!

Hey, you're in good company. I used to enjoy decorating. Then the putting them away thing got to me. Now that the kids are older, I have enough to do, thank you. It's just not fun anymore. I am happy to just get the tree up. I let the kids hang ornaments. I have been putting the tree down the day after Christmas for a couple of years now. A whole new meaning to England's "Boxing Day", except for me, it means boxing away the decorations.

Cheers.

What seasonal decorations?? After all these years I never knew you put stuff out and I guess you never knew that I didn't! THEY were LUCKY that I put out a turkey, REAL mashed potatoes, 2 vegetables, pumpkin pie and whip cream (in the can I confess). Dinner was not pleasant but I'll tell you more later....
It is so nice to hear that all your "friends" feel the same way as we do! Christmas?? oh please save me!

Sounds like Halloween to me. In a weird farmer type way, with all your husks 'n' stuff!

Being bad together sounds like a lot more fun than putting up (and down) decorations!

gary:
Well - thankfully - it's a more benign holiday than Christmas. Less hoopla!
(thanks for visiting)

shari:
I like that - Boxing Day is for putting the decorations away in boxes! My new motto.

msp:
Hey - next time you're here I'll show you all my TG doo-dads (Mr. and Mrs. Scarecrow, etc.)
Talk to you later...

all mod cons:
Kind of. But we save the scary (!!) stuff for Halloween - the witches, skeletons, ghosts...
It's more terrifying than usual to enter my home!

How much do you decorate for thanksgiving? We never do anything but eat...

Beth said...

casdok:
None at Christmas either?
Is he okay with a Christmas tree?

oreneta:
I should make you guess - the answer is so simple.
Minimal! But noticeable...

Oh ME TOO!

I am such a dead-beat when it comes to decorating...I only get out just enough to keep things festive...-for the kids, don'tcha know-...and then I box it back up again. Martha Stewart I ain't.

Best day of the year? Jan. 2nd.

I can't even respond intelligently because I find that pumpkin so oddly disturbing.

princess pointful:
Would it help at all to know it isn't mine?
I think it looks like a turkey.
Sort of.

I hate decorating Christmas trees and I propose leaving the tree up year round...

pavel:
I'm assuming you have a fake tree? Otherwise, the needles falling from that year round tree would be horrific!
