Roughing It

Miss me?

(Probably not, because it’s only been a little over 24 hours since I’ve been “away.”)

A short but intense, windy storm left us without power as of late yesterday afternoon. The power was restored late this afternoon.

Whew…

I once dreamed of being Laura Ingalls from Little House on the Prairie (the book, not the TV show).

Now? Not so much.

I need modern conveniences — such as ELECTRICITY!!!

Oh, I love me some electricity!!! I hate camping with a passion...I don't want to be stuck in a tent or some tin can with a bunch of boys, no bathroom and no electricity!!! And I LOVED the LIttle House Books...but they always made it seem so...fun!

Thanks for the kind words. (((hugs)))

It's official - the "Beth's" do not do camping. We enjoy the comfort of home and all the good stuff electricity offers!

Yeah, for much of my life I've been fascinated with the past, and how cool it would be. Then I think of things like ... electricity ... clean water ... antibiotics ... reality television ...

Do BMX's run on electricity? I think not...you can keep your electricity!

Right...now where did I plug my mobile in...?

dorky dad:
Yup, we couldn't do without reality TV, gas guzzling cars, fast food...all the best modern life has to offer!

john:
Such an admirable, environmentally friendly thing to do - bike over car.
Other than that, you're as bad as the rest of us!

I think I would wither and fade away if I didn't have electricity. Edison is my hero!

24 hours? You poor, poor dear. It's a wonder you survived.

My neice wants to be Laura most desperately. On year my sister made her a prairie dress for her birthday. I don't think the child even looked at another gift for months.

I might not wither and fade away, but I'd get grumpier and grumpier.

tracey:
Yeah, poor me. 24 hours without electricity and I'm complaining. How spoiled rotten am I? (Very.)
I can so relate to your niece. Such a wonderful dream - reality will set in later.

Electricity does make life more enjoyable.

That must have been quite a storm. Did it leave a lot of the city without electricity?

I remember, when I was a kid, if the power went out, I thought it was immediately necessary to run everything battery powered I owned.

Which was really just my Fisher Price cassette player.

Good thing it was the book and not the show, because the one on the show had one heck of a set of buck teeth...

I have three little kids, so power outages are great...for like the first HOUR. Then it's all "I'm bored!" And the kids are no better.

Electricity not only makes life more enjoyable - it makes it bearable!

oreneta:
Yup - lots of places without power. Parts of Toronto, Barrie...
It was brief but mighty! My eldest chose that time to walk the dog and saw a tree come down on the next block. THE tree that caused the power outage for our area.

princess pointful:
You would have been out of luck if you'd had a Kenner Easy-Bake Oven - requires electricity!

mof3:
Glad to hear I'm not the only one who finds power outages tedious. I start getting antsy after about 1/2 an hour.
(Must say, I liked the TV version of Charles Ingalls better than the Charles in the pictures of the books...)

That was a spectacular wind storm wasn't it? Really made it seem like summer when every evening there is a chance of 'weather'....

But yeah, electricity is a must in the Trish household too. It used to be exciting when the lights went out...now, notsomuch.

It was spectacular all right - and so weird that so much damage was done in such a short time.
