A Toronto Maple Leaf Fan

So, I’ve established myself in the blogging world in terms of an introduction and a (brief) book review. Now for the real me. (And this might lose whatever fan base I may have started.) Yes, occasionally I’m going to blog about The Toronto Maple Leafs — my “boys.”

I’ve been a fan of this hockey team since I was a kid. I’m actually one of those lucky Canadians who saw the Leafs win the Stanley Cup in 1967. Who knew it would be their last one for years to come?

I used to listen to Foster Hewitt’s play-by-play on my tiny transistor radio in bed at night for the away games – and for the home games I was not allowed to watch ‘til the end on school nights. The only thing I ever won in my life was a pair of Leaf tickets via an Orange Crush bottle cap contest when I was 13 years old. (I am so dating myself here…) I believe that was the game where I hung around afterward and got Bobby Orr’s autograph. What a thrill. I graciously gave that tiny — cherished — scrap of paper to one of my sons. He, in turn, literally bumped into Bobby Orr while working at the Air Canada Centre last Monday. What a world.

I’d like to point out that although I have not gone to many Leaf games (perhaps 2 or 3 a year) every game I attend, the Leafs win. And this includes that thrilling game in Montreal on October 28. Yes, I was there as the shoot-out went to seven. I believe my presence during these Leaf victories is no coincidence. In fact, I think my presence assures the Leafs of a win.

Richard Peddie, John Ferguson and Paul Maurice — I am offering my services as a good luck charm. You want another Stanley Cup? Reserve a seat for me. Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend every game but let’s see what I can do for the home games.

What have you got to lose?

Actually, Last year you went to a game and they lost to Buffalo in a shootout.....and I know this because I was there too!!!

I don't consider losing a shootout a loss - each team gets a point for the tie. However, you're right. They didn't win so that means The Leafs haven't won every game I've attended.

But they never LOSE when I'm there!

(I can't believe I'm posting a comment responding to a comment that has to have been made my one of my kids.)

sorry mom....you're right...a shootout loss isn't really a loss.

OK, here I go - my first foray into Blogberg - I had no idea you were such an avid (possessed?) fan of the Leafs. I am impressed, though, with your honesty. Shall we forward your comments to the powers that be at ACC?!

by powers of the the ACC you mean me, right mimi?

is it me or is this blog site becoming a family thing? Anyone else would be afraid to leave a comment! I might add (since I'm here) that I also could name all the players on the 6 original teams. Oh, we had such exciting nghts!

Who is Mimi? She is a family member mentioned in a comment by yet another family member.

And I suspect this question may have been posed by either a friend or ANOTHER family member. (If not, my apologies...)

Does blog protocol exist re: family comments? This particular post is turning into a family forum.
