Not Yet...

Oh, please, people – it’s way too soon for Christmas lights.
(Sour grapes on my part ‘cause we’re always late with ours?)

I agree! I have a rule: no Christmas decorations until December. Retailers had them up the day after Halloween. Some of my neighbours weren't far behind.

Here in Texas it is the norm to put up everything, including one's tree, the day after Thanksgiving and promptly take everything down the day after Christmas. I find this just weird. It's as if everyone feels the need to personally champion the total commercialization of the holiday. Where I come from (Buffalo), we followed the concept of the twelve days of Christmas - trees do not go up until a week before Christmas and do not come down until Epiphany. We didn't rush the season, we savored it.

Rebecca and Lynn -

Thanks. I am not alone. I am not (Mrs.) Scrooge.

Trish - Just got back from grocery shopping. The Xmas trees are now on sale in the parking lot!!
Keeping my home as a refuge sounds appealing.
